Christmas time is here– which means it’s also time to get your home ready for the holiday season! Whether you have relatives visiting or not, there are a number of things you can do to make your home more comfortable AND energy-efficient this winter. All of our recommendations will make Christmas Day extra special for your family… plus, you’ll be able to enjoy the upgrades in the new year! Start 2019 with some home updates. Your future self will thank you.

1) Invest In Some LED Lighting.

Adam is a huge proponent of his Philips Hue lights, and it’s easy to see why. Not only can he change the color of his lights from his phone, but he can also turn them on and off without having to walk around the house! LED lights are incredibly energy-efficient, and they last an exceptionally long time. So if you’ve always wanted red and green lights inside your home, instead of just outside, buy some Philips Hue lights here! It’s a fun touch that will make your whole family happy on Christmas day. Plus, you’ll save money on your energy bills, so it’s a win for everyone!

2) Finally Put That ALEXA/GOOGLE Home To Use.

We’re always meeting customers who have recently purchased a Google Home or Alexa, but have yet to optimize it. As the World’s Smartest Technicians, we are all about our smart devices– check out our favorites here! We recommend taking some time to think about what matters most when it comes to making your home smarter. Do you want to be able to lock your doors from your phone? Maybe you just want to have classical music play for your dogs while you’re at work. And if you purchase those LED lights we mentioned above, you can use your Google or Alexa to turn off your lights! Stop walking around your house at night turning off lights– or even worse, leaving lights on and wasting energy. Start using your Google Home/Alexa to make your home smarter. Need help? We’re always available for consultations, so give us a call if you’re interested in setting up a smart system.

3) Update Your Thermostat Settings.

Whether you have a thermostat with geofencing technology or not, there are still a number of things you can do to make your air conditioner run more efficiently during the winter. Most thermostats these days have WiFi capabilities, meaning you can modify their settings through your phone! If you have a WiFi thermostat, make sure you adjust your settings for home, away, and sleep. Did you know you can save 10-20% per month on Tampa heating costs if you turn your thermostat down by 10 degrees at night? Read more about energy efficiency during the winter here!

4) Install A Ductless Mini Split.

Ductless mini-splits are pretty hot in the world of HVAC, but they pretty much sell themselves after the holiday season. Why? When families visit for Christmas, homeowners notice that it’s hard to find one thermostat setting that satisfies everyone. Ductless mini-splits are known for being energy-efficient, but they’re also the best for home flexibility. You can keep each bedroom at a different temperature, or you can finally put some much-needed cooling into a chronically warm room. Read more here! As a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer, we’re the company to call if you’re looking to install a Tampa ductless mini-split. Schedule your free estimate here.

We want to take this time to wish you a very merry Christmas, from everyone here at Ahoy! Cooling & Heating. We can’t wait to help you get cool and stay cool in the new year! Remember, we’re always a phone call (or message) away. And if you have extra Christmas cookies… you know where to find us.
